So how do you find a stuttering therapy program that is effective? One that can reduce or eliminate stuttering reliably. First of all, you need to investigate whether you can trust the results. Because this is where evidence-based stuttering treatment is very valuable.
The only way that I know how to do this is to find an objective, scientific review of the procedures – and especially the results. You need to look at the results, not only immediately after treatment, but for a period of time after treatment ends. This will show whether the results will last and be permanent.
Objective reviews are studies that are subjected to scientific research conducted by professionals who report and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. These journals have editorial boards that only accept research studies when the results are scientifically accurate – not the result of chance. Peer reviewed journals frequently reject studies that show measurements that are not reliable or conclusions that the results do not justify.
Most of all, there is actually is a large body of studies that are peer-reviewed, evidence-based and published. My next articles will direct the reader to these studies. They will show how you can find the research journals that contain this valuable information.
A Good Example of an Evidence-Based Stuttering Treatment
Finally, check out this evidence-based stuttering treatment, that has been well researched and is now provided by the Power Stuttering Center. The MPI (Modifying Phonation Intervals) program for adults and teenagers who stutter takes two weeks in the clinic. After that about one year of carefully managed follow-up back home using online video. The video below shows graduates of the MPI Program.
