Stuttering Treatment for Adults using the MPI-2 Stuttering Treatment application is a specially designed tool to provide professional treatment to individuals who stutter.
MPI-2 Program Video – How It Works
Below is a video produced by Oli Cheadle, a London provider of the MPI-2. Oli was one of the speech pathologists that Mark Power brought into training for the MPI-2.
The Modifying Phonation Intervals (MPI-2) Stuttering Treatment Program is designed to teach adolescents and adults who stutter to achieve generalized stutter-free, normal-sounding speech. The program is a performance-contingent, biofeedback system that employs software (iOS MPI-2 application) and hardware (iPad, iPad Mini, or iPhone and a throat microphone/accelerometer with single earpiece assembly). Targeted vocal feedback is recorded from the surface of the speaker’s throat and automatically fed back to the speaker during treatment.
Stuttering Treatment for Adults Advantages
Special advantages of the MPI-2 are its development by expert clinical researchers as a complete evidence-based treatment program – including establishment, transfer, and maintenance of fluent speech, and its portability –which facilitates a significant role for the client in managing the treatment and the ability to practice newly learned speech patterns away from the clinic setting while being monitored by the software and/or the clinician.
A general description of the MPI-2 Stuttering Treatment Program, along with pre- and post-treatment speaking samples, as well as links to the research publications underlying the development of the MPI-2, can be accessed at the MPI-2 Website at http://www.mpi2.com.
In order to start the treatment program, the potential client needs to install the MPI-2 Stuttering Treatment Program application first on an iPhone or iPad. The establishment phase of the program is supervised by the clinician, but the client proceeds at their own pace. Also, since the client has purchased the MPI-2 app, they will have access to it long after the treatment.
