Stuttering speech interferes with conversation. The speaker or “person who stutterers” also may feel embarrassed or shameful feelings during social interaction.
Types of Stuttering Speech
Stuttering is characterized by 1) repetitions, prolongations, and blocks of sounds and syllables. Each of these prevents smooth and efficient communication. These symptoms are usually accompanied by signs of struggle related to trying to get the sounds out and say what is needed.
Stuttering Solutions
Stuttering can be resolved by learning a new way of speaking that is incompatible with stuttering. The new speech replaces the original stuttering with fluent. speech. Most people who stutter don’t stutter when they sing. This is an example of a different way of using the voice that prevents stuttering. Note that replacing stuttering with singing sounds unnatural and needs to be shaped to sound more like normal speaking, but still different from the stuttered speech.
The MPI-2 Stuttering Treatment Program does exactly this. Using real-time vocal feedback, the person who stutters learns to speak in a slightly different way that prevents stuttering and sounds natural. For further information about their newly developed program, click the link above.
